Video interviews are becoming a more and more common part of the recruitment process and you may find that a company will invite you for a video interview after you have applied. Video interviews might seem scary, but really you have nothing to be concerned about. We’re here to help you figure out how to handle a video interview.

What is a video interview?

A video interview is an interview conducted remotely via a video call system such as Facetime or Skype.

Video interviews are typically conducted as the 1st stage of the interview procedure.

What should you wear for a video interview?

You all know what you should wear to a face-to-face interview, and video interviews are no different. Try to wear  the same sort of clothes you would wear to a regular interview… And don’t neglect to wear trousers!

What will you be asked in a video interview?

A video interview is rather equivalent to a phone interview. You will be asked fundamental admin questions such as salary expectations and notice period along with the regular competency based queries you can expect from any interview.

In a video interview you will not typically be asked to perform a task or skills based assessment as these sorts of tests are usually only during a face-to-face meeting.

Advantages of a video interview:

That you can do the interview remotely

A video interview is more personal than a phone interview

Cost and time efficient

Disadvantages of a video interview:

Technical issues may interrupt the flow of the interview

Video interviews can sometimes feel awkward or unnatural
